Touring & Sightseeing

Alice Springs Desert Park, sewerage ponds and feeding the wallabies

Take the opportunity to visit:

The famous Alice Springs Desert Park (check times to catch the Birds of Prey flights), The Old Telegraph Station, Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of the Air, The Old Ghan and the National Road Transport Hall of Fame and so much more.

Tours to Ayers Rock (Uluru) are popular and can be done in a day (leave around 6am return at midnight!) or on a more leisurely overnight, 2 night or longer tour. Longer tours usually include the Olgas (Kata Tjuta) and/or Kings Canyon (Watarrka). If driving yourselves allow for driving time each way - Uluru is 450km (roughly 4.5-5hrs drive) from Alice Springs.

Locally, you may enjoy a visit to Heavitree Gap Resort to feed the wallabies that come down from the hills. Simpson's Gap also offers opportunities to see rock wallabies in the wild.

Most tour operators are happy to pick you up from your B&B Accommodation.

The Larapinta Trail offers a hiking experience for bushwalkers between Alice Springs and Ormiston Gorge.

For birdwatchers: the sewerage ponds on the outskirts of town offer opportunities to see a variety of bird life.
